Wedding planning was going perfect until…

March 4, 2017 By: Sydney Carlsoncomment

Wedding planning was going perfect until...This time last year, I was shopping for my wedding dress. After five years of dating, 18 months of which we had been engaged we finally set a wedding date! October 1st of 2016.

I found my dream dress after a few shopping trips, my perfect size, perfect price, everything. I paid cash for it and ordered my size. We had been visiting venues, cake tasting, looking up pictures, everything was going according to plan. Until the end of the month when I started getting really really sick. I throwing up all the time, I couldn’t get out of the bed in the mornings, lights at work hurt my eyes, and I spent many shifts in the bathroom or in the office trying not to be sick. Which when you manage a restaurant at a casino, isn’t really an option.

The 29th, leap day, I was feeling a little better and had a girls night planned with my friends. My now husband made a joke about taking a pregnancy test since I was feeling sick and he knew we’d be drinking lots wine. I laughed at him and rolled my eyes, but while he was a work I took a test. Big fat negative. Still, that night I only drank two glasses of wine and couldn’t stop thinking about that test.

When Chuck came home I told him I had taken a test and the results.  He told me to take another one in a few days while he was home. March 2nd, I took another test while he stood in the living room. I kept waiting for “not pregnant” to pop up. Less then 60 seconds later it did, well “pregnant” did. I gave it a few good shakes to make sure the word “not” wasn’t just hiding. I walked out of the bathroom stunned calling Chucks name. The look on his face told me he already knew what the test said. “I’m pregnant” I whispered as he wrapped me in a big hug. We stood stunned touching my still flat belly. Staring at the test and each other. “we’re having a baby” “we’re going to be parents”.

4 weeks later, We told his parents that we needed to talk about the wedding. We just said “we need to change the date”. His dad assumed we were putting it off even longer. “Why” he asked with a huff. Looking up I said “I want to fit into my wedding dress” After a minute of confusion, they both gasped as they realized we were having a baby! We told my mom the same way, but over the phone.

4 more weeks later, we went public with this family picture.

Finally, on November 6th we got to met her.
