Do you feel like all you do is dream and think of what you want from your life? You have amazing plans and desires, but you ever seem to actually act on those thoughts. Its not that you don’t want to, you just aren’t sure how to get started. Without a clear plan all you’re going to do is spin your wheels and get no where. c
Chase your dreams. Dream Bigger. Goal Crushing. Reach your goals.
A lot of times these two words are used interchangeably when in reality they are two very different things! Dreams are wonderful things, they give us hope and faith to keep pushing on. They allow us to escape reality for a little while and even help us cope with our lives. However, dreaming won’t get us very far when it comes to actually accomplishing anything. Goals however, that is something you work towards. Goals help you succeed and actually reach your dreams.
“A goal without a deadline is just a dream.”
You might think I’m splitting hairs here, but dreams and goals are very different. Dreaming is easy and often time we don’t even mean to do it. Setting real goals takes time, thought, and planning. So, how do you take your dream and make it a goal?
The Anatomy of SMART goals
Be specific! If you aren’t specific you won’t have a clear image of what you are trying to achieve.
This usually means you have numbers in your goals. “I want to write 5 blog posts this week” or “I want to increase my page views by 100 people this week”
You want to set goals that you can actually achieve. Yes, you always hear “nothing is impossible” and I do believe that to a point but if you cannot reach your goals you will end up discouraged so keep them to something you know is possible.
So obviously some goals are going to kind of suck. Maybe you are setting goals for cleaning your house. “Today I’m going to clean the bathroom and tomorrow I’m scrubbing the kitchen floors.” While those things NEED done, adding a “then I will allow myself to take a hot bath with a glass of wine” makes it rewarding!
T- Time Based
This is my all time favorite part of setting SMART goals. When I first started setting goals and moving past the dream phase, this was all I knew. “A goal without a deadline is just a dream” is so accurate. If you just set the goal and leave an open time frame, chances are it’ll never get done.
“Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible”
