Learn to crochet a flat circle
This circle pattern for crochet is extremely versatile, you can use it to make washcloths, rugs, pot holders, and even blankets. I’ve put the pattern into words and pictures to make it easy for anyone to make but the pattern isn’t really original to me or anyone specific. It’s simply a technique that has been passed down from crocheter to crocheter, in my case my grandmother to me.
The Crochet Circle Pattern
Any yarn that matches your project. I use this yarn for washcloths and just about everything else
Hook to match yarn
Set Up: Chain 3
Round 1: (DC) Double Crochet 12 times in the second chain, it may be tight but the chain will open up
Use a slip stitch to join the circle and turn
Round 2: Chain 2 (this counts as one double crochet) Make two DC in each stitch from the previous round (24 sts) slip stitch to join the circle and turn
Round 3: Chain 2 (counts as the first DC) make one double crochet in the same stitch as the 2 chains. In the next stitch, DC once, in the next stitch make 2 doubles. Continue alternating making one DC in one stitch and two in the next until the end of the round. (36)
(Increase 1, DC 2 *repeat)
Round 4: Chain 2, make one double crochet in the same stitch. (Increase 1) Make one double crochet in each of next two stitches. So you should have 1 increase followed up, 2 DC. Repeat until end of round
Round 5: Start as previous rounds, starting with two double crochets in the first stitch (Increase 1) and then 3 DC.
(1 increase, 3 DC *repeat)
Round 6 and beyond: Start each around as before, chain two (counts as the first double crochet) make two double crochets (increase 1) in the first stitch and add one more single stitch before the increase. So round 6 would be Increase 1, follow by 4 DC and repeat. Round 7: would be Increase 1, 5 DC, round 8: increase 1, 6 DC Round 9: Increase 1, 7 DC
(You can stop at whatever round you want once you reach the desired size)
This pattern can also be used to make a very simple mandala, simply alternate colors frequently and pick a nice edging to finish!
